She has worked in mental health at the provincial level, in rural community practice at the municipal level, and, since 1990, as a professor at the Dalhousie School of Social Work, where she also served as director for a decade. Késa Munroe-Anderson (PhD), Associate Professor – School of Education, Acadia University

An associate professor in Acadia’s School of Education, Késa first came to Acadia as an international student from the Bahamas in 1995, earning a BA and an MA in English. “When I was a student at Acadia, I didn’t have any faculty members who represented my racial background,” she says. “I’m happy to see a growth in representation of Black faculty at Acadia in recent months. It’s important that Acadia is a place where Black faculty and students believe they can grow and develop. “

Today, Munroe-Anderson is well known as a community-oriented, social justice educator and change agent. She practises an Africentric, anti-racist, and Black feminist/Womanist approach to research, teaching, and leadership. Read More…

This is a debut short film by Canadian filmmaker Andre Anderson – recognized locally and internationally.

This film was created primarily to show positive representation of black bodies in media. This piece showcases a positive relationship between a black father and son while they share a special birthday moment. Special thanks to all those involved in the creation of HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

DOC Atlantic, Andre Anderson is a driven and dedicated director with 10+ years in the film and television industry. Anderson got his start in the CBC hit series MR.D filmed in Halifax in 2011 and in 2015 moved to Toronto to further develop his career, appearing on various television/film projects. Now residing back in Halifax, Anderson is a leader, hard-worker, and a storyteller by nature. A multifaceted director with a talent of orchestrating plans into realities.
